Privacy
SpiritBox collects no personal data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising SDKs and no tracking. Your recordings stay on your device unless you share them yourself.
What the app connects to
- radio-browser.info, a public station directory, to get the list of stations. Like any web request it sends your IP address and the app's identifier (
spiritbox/<version>). The directory is run by volunteers; see its own policy. - The radio stations' streaming servers, to receive the audio. Each station's server sees your IP address, as it would for any radio player.
- Google Play services, only to show the in-app review prompt and to check for updates. Google's privacy policy applies to those.
The developer runs no server. Nothing you do in the app is sent to us.
What stays on your device
- Your settings (country, mode, dwell, noise level, language) in the app's private storage.
- Your session recordings (WAV) and their logs, in the app's documents folder. They leave the phone only when you tap Share and choose where to send them.
- Two counters that decide when to ask for a review, once.
Permissions, and why
| Internet | To stream the radio stations. |
|---|---|
| Foreground service (media playback) | To keep the sweep running with the screen locked, with a notification you can stop it from. |
| Notifications | To show that session notification. You can decline; the session works without it. |
| Wake lock | To keep audio decoding while the screen is off. |
The app does not ask for location, contacts, microphone, camera or storage access.
Children
The app is not directed at children. It collects no data from anyone.
